If you were watching Daytime Ottawa last Friday, you may have seen our Director of Sales, Julie Reid, talking about the benefits of our natural sugar alternative xylitol over some tasty bison burgers. Joining her was Helene Huot, a Registered Holistic Nutritionist and Registered Nutritional Consulting Practitioner. Helene has a great deal of experience working in the natural health food world, and we are flattered that she stands behind the health benefits of Xyla products!
First course on the menu? Delicious and lean bison burgers with a spicy Xyla peach jam marmalade. Helene mixed lean ground bison with some of our Xyla teriyaki and ketchup, along with garlic, cumin, pepper and green onions to make a flavourful patty. While the burgers grill, you can start making the marmalade – just mix a jar of our Xyla peach jam with garlic, ginger, onions, sea salt, and crushed red pepper to add some heat.
And for dessert, nothing compares to the spicy sweet flavour that Gwyneth Paltrow’s Sweet Potato & 5-Spice Muffins deliver. We used xylitol in ours, and brushed the muffin tops with our xylitol maple syrup. It is surprising how moist these muffins turned out – you would never know they are gluten-free and so healthy. The sweet potato adds some welcome nutritional value to a sweet treat, and the Chinese five-spice really elevates the flavour profile and leads to a very sophisticated muffin!
Happy (and healthy) grilling!
